Thank A Veteran Day

Nebraska Troop Support joined Together We Can Change The World Day----the first Saturday of each month. Thank A Veteran Day was started on Saturday, March 7, 2009 as a day when we take time to thank our veterans.

On March 7th, I sent a letter and a cookie to a veteran in the nursing home. His his son called to tell me that he visited his dad that day and his dad asked him to open up the letter. As the son starting to read the "thank you," his dad said "forget the letter give me the cookie".

Life is so simple ---- we can change the world one cookie at a time.

Who gets your cookie, today?

There are so many ways to support Veterans in your life!

The freedom you have as an American is the result of a Veteran. The Veterans of the Revolutionary War gave us our country. Because of Civil War Veterans we are still a united nation and slavery was abolished. The brave Veterans of World Wars I and II helped save the world from tyranny and ensured you are not serving in a slave labor camp away from family and friends. The Veterans of wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan protect us from the daily threats that produce the television images of mothers with babies tied on their backs looking for refuge in another country.

Thank A Veteran Day is a way to say THANK YOU to the Veterans who have served our country and all Americans. Every single person can join in showing gratitude on Thank A Veteran Day.

Shake a Veteran's hand and say, "Thank you."
Send a Thank You card to someone in a Veteran's home.
If it is a relative, how about breakfast in bed?
If it is an employee, how about extra time on break and a public Thank You?
Treat them to a cup of coffee.
Take them out for a ride around town.
Help around their house.
Join with others to help a Veteran in need.
