Since first creating Mannheim Steamroller in 1974, and then founding his American Gramaphone record label, Chip Davis has become one of the top-selling composers and musicians in the industry. Along the way, Davis and Mannheim Steamroller have also initiated or played a leading role in efforts to benefit national and civic causes. These include:
A long association with the VFW and military support groups, including donations of Christmas CDs and Davis’ “Spirit of America” CD for distribution to veterans, military families and care facilities. “Spirit” CDs have also been donated for July 4th events.
Recognition by The National Guard, Department of Homeland Defense, USS Nebraska and other military units for helping to raise public visibility and awareness of their missions, along with donating production resources and copyrighted music for armed services applications.
Working with NASA to capture the launch and landing of Space Shuttles Discovery and Atlantis, characterized by NASA officials as the most accurate audio recording of a shuttle launch and landing ever made. The recordings and accompanying video footage were part of a special concert presentation for NASA and The Space Foundation personnel, and will be used in upcoming concerts to benefit The Space Foundation.
Performing at the annual Lighting of the National Christmas Tree Ceremony during the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush Administrations, becoming the first group invited to play under two Administrations
Conducting a two-year tour, “The Music of Yellowstone”, with proceeds benefiting the rebuilding of man-made structures at Yellowstone Park following devastating fires. The effort resulted in one of the largest private donations ever made to the National Park Service, and was recognized by the Secretary of the Interior.
Performing in St. Petersburg, Russia for The Goodwill Games, along with developing the “To Russia with Love” CD to help raise awareness of the need for global goodwill; creating and producing “Saving the Wildlife” to accompany a PBS series and outreach effort on America’s environmental challenges.
